A few tips for mechanical design 馃敡鉁
What have I prepared for you this time?
A simple press that once replaced hard manual labor.聽
While it was done using a dedicated fixture,聽
it still required significant strength from the operator 馃挭
The goal: Insert two sliding bushings聽
onto the ears of a simple tension spring.
The device itself is simple,聽
but I want to highlight
a few key design principles here:
馃煣 Orange: Housing the cylinders in place so they aren't subjected to radial forces. I chose to use a rod-eye connection at the cylinder end and a trunnion connection at the front鈥攕tandard accessories, no custom design needed.
馃煪 Pink: Very user-friendly and easy to operate. Placing parts when the cylinders "threaten" to drop on your fingers isn't fun... So, a small tab that tilts the base where the parts are placed adds both convenience and safety, bringing us to...
馃煩 Green: Two-handed operation 馃憪. For those unfamiliar with this principle, the operator's two hands must press the switches simultaneously. In this case, the machine has no external control鈥攅verything is pneumatically controlled, meaning there's a pneumatic logic circuit that prevents the cylinders from lowering unless both switches are pressed simultaneously.
